One room challenge linking event

So it seems I forgot how to blog, but I'm back and ready to start again.  What better way to start, then  to  participate in the One Room Challenge linking event.  I have always followed this event and I love that this year anyone can have a chance to join.  I picked my front hall, since I need to get it done, and this is as a good push as any to get me going.

Here is the hideous before pic, the colour is the previous owners choice.  I had starting planning this out awhile ago so of course I have changed my mind a couple of times.  Which is what happens when you don't get right to it.

My new plan is for a more modern light instead of a lantern style, and add a floating credenza to the wall where I was originally going to place a mirror.

Instead of a painted stair runner, I am going to paint the whole area black.  I think it will have a more sophisticated look then the painted runner.

Here are some halls that I have drawn inspiration from.

Here is my rough plan for my front hall.

Scope of work to be done

Paint the walls BM Cloud White
* Paint the stairs black considering BM Black Onyx
* Paint all doors high gloss black
* Source rug, light, credenza
* Create a gallery wall using family photos
* Style and accessorize

I am excited to get going on this project and to check out  each week what everyone else is designing along the way.

  1. Melissa - I'm a fellow ORC link participant and I am also doing my foyer. I love the gold knobs on the white cabinet in your inspiration photo and have looked high and low for knobs like that for my closet doors. If you ever come across anything similar, please let me know. Enjoy and good luck!
